IBC 2019 TRENDS AND THOUGHTS 2019 has seen a string of Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) service announcements, from Apple+, HBO Max, NBCUniversal's Peacock to Disney+. While this may seem like a consumers' dream, the industry is holding a collective breath – how many more can the market take before we see an all-out price war that will wipe out all but the strongest? At IBC this year, the Irdeto team walked the halls and talked to operators, service providers, content owners, ecosystem partners and industry experts for hours. We noticed one major phenomenon – the competitive pressure is like a cold bucket of water waking the industry up to focus on practical innovations that will make a difference in revenue and cost in the relatively near future. In that spirit, we've summarized below what we believe to be the most important trends to pay attention to over the next 12 months.
